Nothing can sway China from its path

Many people are trying to tell China where it should go, but most of this is nothing more than empty talk.

There are existing models, such as many age-old Western democracies. There is also the "successful example" of Taiwan's transition to a democracy. However, there are also countries that fell into chaos after blindly copying from the West.

This is a serious question. Formulas churned out casually on the Internet will not work without a thorough look into the real situation and careful mapping and preparation.

What are the major tasks for the country in the coming decades? Looking into the depths of society, we find that urgent tasks include improving people's livelihood, the environment, social equality and fighting corruption.

Looking from the coastal areas in the east to the underdeveloped western regions in China, we see more problems such as regional wealth gaps, ethnic issues and even attempts to separate certain regions from the country.

There are too many problems the country needs to resolve, but we cannot afford to make one thing perfect while ignoring many others.

Drawing from the lessons of some countries, we can see "volcanoes" lurking in China, too. The planned economy of the past dictated what people should think and do. When certain restrictions were lifted, problems emerged.

The Western political systems were founded on the power of capital, which does not apply to China's problems and already lost its competitive status when earlier Chinese leaders decided which road to travel on.

The current path of reform and opening-up, known as "socialism with Chinese characteristics," has brought a prosperity that the country has not seen in centuries. The country has not only achieved strong social and economic progress, but also succeeded in harnessing many complicated issues that have confounded many other countries.

A big country like China may see many of its problems converge into a major flood, and its size can also mean a lack of joint efforts. The former Soviet Union once became so powerful that it defeated the Nazis and, at one point, outpaced the US in space technology. But the lack of overall management ability caused it to crack under the pressure of a few problems.

China has been exploring a national road in the past century, with countless setbacks and suffering. The path it has chosen today is more precious than gold. We cannot think about making a major change just because of the delusions of people from home and abroad.

The country's future lies in our own hands. As long as we don't trip over ourselves, no one can stand in our way or knock us down.
