Peruvian President Ollanta Humala arrived here Friday with a delegation of high-ranking officials to visit ailing Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.

Other members of the Peruvian delegation include Vice Foreign Minister Jose Beraun, Foreign Ministry's General Director for America Claudio de la Puente and two officials from the presidency.

During their stay in Havana till Saturday, they will also discuss with Cuban officials several bilateral deals.

Meanwhile, in a public event in Caracas, Venezuelan Vice President Nicolas Maduro said he would visit Chavez in Cuba on Friday.

"I will visit the family. I will meet the medical team. I will visit our Commander and give him the good news that our people keep working," said Maduro.

Argentine President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner landed in Havana earlier Friday to show support for her Venezuelan counterpart, who is recovering here from a cancer surgery.

Upon arrival, Fernandez said she would meet Chavez and his family members here before embarking on a tour to the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia and Vietnam, leading a delegation of 200 businessmen.

Chavez, 58, underwent a fourth operation on Dec. 11, but later contracted a lung infection that has complicated his recovery.

He was reelected on Oct. 7 to a third six-year presidency, but was too fraile to attend the scheduled inauguration ceremony on Thursday.

Despite his absence, thousands of fervent supporters swore "absolute loyalty" to him during a rally on Thursday.

Little is known about the development of his health conditions.

Venezuelan Information Minister Ernesto Villegas told local radio on Friday that Chavez is "assimilating the treatment" and that he is "aware of his situation."
