Three Taliban insurgents were killed and 10 others detained in separate operations in Afghanistan on Tuesday, in the latest raids as part of campaign against Taliban in the country, the NATO-led coalition forces said.

"During an operation in Baraki Barak district, Logar province, today, an Afghan and coalition security force killed three insurgents and arrested a Taliban leader. The leader was an improvised explosive device (IED) expert who oversaw a group of insurgents operating in the province. At the time of his arrest, the leader was planning an IED attack against Afghan Local Police, " the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said in press release.

They also detained four suspected insurgents, seized multiple weapons, IED components and ammunition in Logar 60 km south of Afghan capital Kabul, it added.

In another operation earlier in the day, the combined forces arrested a Taliban facilitator in Khugyani district, Nangarhar province, some 120 km east of Kabul.

"The facilitator enabled the distribution of weapons, ammunition, IEDs and suicide vests for use in attacks against Afghan and coalition forces. He also acquired suicide vehicle IED (SVIED) materials for insurgents operating in the province, and organized and planned attacks using SVIEDs," the release noted.

Four suspected insurgents were also captured as a result of the operation.

In addition, the press release said that "An Afghan and coalition security force detained several suspected insurgents during an operation in search of a Taliban leader in Nerkh district, Wardak province, today,"

The leader facilitates the movement of weapons and IED materials to insurgents in the province 35 km west of Kabul.

The Taliban, which has been waging an insurgency for more than one decade, has yet to make comment.

Despite a decrease in violent attacks due to cold weather, the government security forces and 100,000 NATO-led coalition forces continue to press the militants in the central Asian country, the ISAF officials said recently.
