Argentinean auto racer Orlando Terranova (BMW) won Argentina's first car race in the 2013 Dakar Rally, after winning Day 10 of the off-road race Tuesday.

Terranova, who is taking part in his seventh rally, having competed twice in the motorbike division and five times in a car, led the 10th stage with a time of three hours, 57 minutes and 58 seconds, to cover the 353-kilometer track between the Argentinean towns of Cordoba and La Rioja.

Trailing the 33-year-old Argentinean by 2:7 was Spain's Joan

"Nani" Roma (Mini), who came in second, followed by the rally's overall leader, France's Stephane Peterhansel (Mini), who came in 12 seconds behind Roma.

Peterhansel, the Dakar Rally leader after 10 races (six on a motorbike and four in car), was helped by the misfortunes of Qatar's Prince Nasser Al-Attiyah's (Buggy), who was forced to withdraw from the race Tuesday due to mechanical problems.h

Prince Al-Attiya's navigator, Lucas Cruz, announced via Twitter, "I have to communicate that unfortunately we have to withdraw."

Peterhansel stays in the lead with an accumulated time of 28:12:00 minutes, followed by South Africa's Giniel de Villiers (Toyota), trailing by 52:38, and his team partner, the Russian Leonid Novitskiy (Mini), trailing by 1:34:04. Terranova is currently in fifth place, trailing by 1:58:49.

Previously, Terranova had only had a win in the 2010 edition of the rally, where he finished 9th.

Meanwhile, the current champ in the motorbike division, France's Cyril Despres (aboard a KTM), held on to his overall lead, despite coming in second in Day 10, behind Spain's Joan Barreda Bort (Husqvarna).

Bort won the day by zipping between Cordoba and La Rioia in 4:43:14. Third place went to the Portuguese Paulo Goncalves (Husqvarna).

Last Monday, the Qatari racer crashed against a tree between the Argentinean cities of San Miguel de Tucuman and Cordoba, and was considerably delayed.

With Al-Attiya's withdrawal, the Buggy team suffered the loss of another member, after the Spanish Carlos Sainz, the team's second pilot and 2010 champion, also abandoned the competition due to mechanical problems.

Day 11 of the Dakar Rally Wednesday will feature two tracks, 221 km (special) and 262 km (connection), between the northern Argentinean cities of La Rioja and Fiambala, in Catamarca.
