Nepal's opposition parties today declared protests, starting January 19 Saturday, against the incumbency for failing to form a broad-based government and lingering the political impasse.

The meeting held at the CPN-UML headquarters said the protests would begin from a mid-west district of Dailekh where agitation against the government is already underway on various contexts.

"Our aim is to oust the incumbency led by Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai and pave way for a consensus," said Jhalanath Khanal, Chairperson of CPN-UML.

"If PM Bhattarai does not resign during the protests, we will be compelled to announce second round of agitation," said Ramchandra Poudel, Vice President of Nepali Congress.

As a part of the 20-day protests, opposition parties will organize rallies and mass meetings in various cities of Nepal including Kathmandu, Biratnagar, Nepalgunj, Pokhara, Janakpur and Dhangadhi.

Meanwhile, President Ram Baran Yadav has issued yet another call to parties to reach a deal, but this time around, without a deadline.

Since November 23 until January 14, the president provided nine deadlines to parties to come to an agreement and thereby, end the stalemate.

The parties, however, failed against the president's several calls chiefly because Premier Bhattarai was unwilling to step down.

Nepal is in an imbroglio as a four-year-old special Constituent Assembly expired without promulgating a new constitution in May last year.
