Chilean President Sebastian Pinera on Thursday praised his government's achievements and pointed out a lack of acknowledgement of the "great effort we are doing."

During a governmental meeting, Pinera said the government "is making a great effort."

His statement coincided with the beginning of the presidential electoral campaign, as Andres Allamand and Laurence Golborne, two former ministers of his government, are competing to be the official candidate.

The president praised the government's achievements in economy, poverty fighting, healthcare and protection of citizens' rights.

He said that in education, an issue that has dominated the country's political agenda, his government has made more achievements than the previous central and left-wing governments.

"Long ago we said education is the key for the future, that a good education opens the doors to a world of opportunities," Pinera said, adding that before his government's reforms, education in Chile was "stagnant."

He called on his party's fellow members to promote the achievements of his government, saying, "I want to ask you to knock on the homes' doors and talk with our people and tell them about the achievements of our government."
