AU welcomes appointment of PM of government of national unity in CAR

The African Union (AU) has welcomed the appointment of the prime minister of the government of national unity in Central African Republic (CAR).

AU announced in a statement on Friday that Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, Chairperson of AU Commission, has welcomed the appointment of Nicolas Tiangaye, from the opposition, as the Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity in CAR, on January 17 2013.

The statement said the appointment is in accordance with the Political Agreement signed by the Central African Republic (CAR) parties, in Libreville, on January11 2013.

AU lauded that the appointment is an important step forward in the implementation of the commitments entered into by the CAR parties.

Zuma has reiterated her appeal to the parties to continue to demonstrate the required political will for the implementation of all their other commitments under the Libreville Agreements.

The Chairperson has reiterated her appeal to the AU Member States and partners to provide the necessary support for the implementation of the Political Agreement, as well as all other agreements reached by the CAR parties in Libreville.
