Myanmar envisions Nay Pyi Taw Accord to enhance cooperation with global partners

Myanmar has envisioned Nay Pyi Taw Accord at the first Myanmar Development Cooperation Forum to strengthen cooperation between the government and international development partners to ensure better public service delivery, official media reported Sunday.

"If we manage the development assistance, low interest or interest-free loans and foreign direct investment properly, systematically and transparently, the donors will be more encouraged to continue this partnership," President U Thein Sein was quoted by the New Light of Myanmar as saying.

In his opening address at the first Myanmar Development Cooperation Forum, which began in Nay Pyi Taw Saturday, U Thein Sein said such correct management of the development aid will be able to achieve the development goals, improve the living standard of the Myanmar people and raise the capacity of human resources in the country which will also help undertake political reform.

Myanmar government is currently assembling the National Comprehensive Development Plan consisting of a set of four five- year plan and covering a 20 years' period from 2011 to 2031 as part of the second stage of the reform process .

The government is adopting a people-centered approach in line with the framework on economic and social reform when reforming the 10 priority areas such as finance and revenue relaxation of restriction on trade and foreign investment, development of private sector, education and health sectors, food security and development of agricultural sector, transparency in government, the mobile phone and internet system and development of basic infrastructure.

The country is also undertaking administrative and management reform as the third phase of the reform process.

The government stressed cooperating with donor countries and international organizations in accordance with the five principles of the Paris Declaration-ownership, alignment, harmonization, result-oriented and mutual accountability.

The forum is being attended by minister, parliament members, representatives from political parties, donor countries, development partners and international organizations.
