Twenty people were injured as a landslide hit a village in Badakhshan province 315 km northeast of Kabul on Tuesday, spokesman for provincial administration Abdul Marouf Rasikh said Wednesday.

"A landslide hit Shulir village in the mountainous Yawan district at 02:00 pm local time Tuesday, injuring 20 villagers including women and children," Rasikh told Xinhua.

He also asserted that 20 houses were destroyed in the village.

Meanwhile, villagers said that a day earlier on Monday an earthquake shocked Shulir village and damaged several houses forcing many to abandon their houses and stay outside home; otherwise more villagers might have lost their lives or injured.

According to the official, since Shulir village is a remote mountainous area, it is difficult to get timely information there.
