South Korea's exports in the information technology (IT) sector rose by the most in 27 months as the global tech market showed signs of recovery, a government report showed Thursday.

Exports in the IT industry increased 16.4 percent to $13.11 billion in January compared with a year earlier, the highest expansion in 27 months, according to South Korea's Ministry of Knowledge Economy.

According to IT consultancy Gartner, the global IT market was expected to grow 4.2 percent in 2013 after expanding 1.2 percent in the prior year.
