Up to 22 militants have been killed and 23 others wounded in a series of operations in different Afghan provinces within the last 24 hours, the country's Interior Ministry said Wednesday morning.

"Afghan National Police (ANP) supporting by army and the NATO- led coalition forces conducted 12 cleanup operations in Nangarhar, Kapisa, Baghlan, Kunduz, Kandahar, Wardak, Ghazni and Helmand provinces, killing 22 armed militants and wounding 23 others over the past 24 hours," the ministry said in a statement.

The ANP also detained eight militants besides seizing weapons and defusing 64 rounds of land-mines and roadside bombs, it added.

Figures released by the Afghan Interior Ministry reveals more than 80 insurgents had been killed and nearly 180 others detained during military operations across the country since beginning of this month.

The Taliban militant group, which has been waging an insurgency of more than one decade, has yet to make comments.
