Energy-saving combustion engines in China will account for 60 percent of all combustion engines by 2015, according to a target released Sunday by the General Office of the State Council.

The office called for a reduction in the fuel consumption of combustion engines by 6 to 10 percent by 2015, a reduction in emissions of 62 million tons of carbon dioxide and 10 percent of nitrogen oxides, and a saving of 20 million tons of fuel compared with 2010.

China will also cultivate a group of key enterprises for the remanufacturing of engines for vehicles and construction machinery, the office said.

Key fields for energy-saving combustion engines include engines for passenger cars, small gasoline engines and diesel engines for small cars, heavy commercial vehicles and boats.
