Indonesia cement sales rises by 14.5 pct in January

The sales of Indonesia cement increased by 14.5 percent to 4.7 million ton in January on yearly basis, indicating acceleration of infrastructure project development in the country, local media reported on Tuesday.

"High consumption, supported by high demand from property sector as many developers starting construction at the beginning of this year, contributed on the hike of the sales," Teguh Hartanto, deputy head of research of Indonesian cement association (ASI) was quoted by Bisnis Indonesia daily as saying.

It also said that ASI expects the sales to rise by 10 percent to 12 percent to 61 million tons this year.

Widodo Santoso head of ASI also confirmed that high demand of cement this year would be supported by the implementation of the government long-term development program called "MP3EI", in which the government builds a massive infrastructures nationwide to spur economic growth and create jobs.

He also said that high demand from property sector is also a factor.

Indonesia economy has expanded by more than 6 percent since 2010 supported by high house hold consumption and growing investment.

The country expects 6.8 percent GDP this year with growing investment and consumption.
