Recent amateur video shows fierce clashes between Syrian government forces and rebel battalions in Homs and Aleppo over the weekend.
A growing number of Lebanon-based Hezbollah fighters are behind some of the clashes. On Saturday, Hezbollah forces in control of border villages on the Lebanese side crossed the border and engaged Syrian rebel troops. Residents at the Lebanon-Syrian border say at least one Hezbollah member and five Syrian rebels were killed.
On Sunday, Syrian troops and anti-government forces also clashed in a military airport near the northern city of Aleppo. The opposition captured the airport a week ago. It’s is the latest military facility in the region to fall under the rebels’ control.
