GE allocates $ 300 mln to expand operation in Indonesia

A senior official of Indonesian branch of US giant firm General Electric (GE) said on Tuesday that the firm has allocated some $ 300 million to expand operation in the country.

Speaking on the sidelines of cooperation signing ceremony with Indonesia's power utility of PLN, flagship carrier Garuda Indonesia and oil and gas firm Pertamina, GE Indonesia Chief Operation Officer Hendry Satriago said the cooperation was aimed at increasing Indonesia's local contents in GE technology and solution products.

"Besides boosting up GE's business in Indonesia, the cooperation would provide contribution on efforts to buildup human resources in the country," he said. He added that the investment allocation was projected until 2017.

According to Hendry, cooperation with PLN would be manifested in power plant project at a capacity of 750 kilowatt in Sumba, East Nusa Tenggara province and biomass technology development.

With Indonesia's flagship carrier Garuda Indonesia, GE would develop technology incorporated in Garuda Maintenance Facilities ( GMF), a Garuda's business unit that provides passenger plane maintenance service.

"We will team up in efforts to make GMF a world's significant player in the business, capable to compete with other global players," he added.

Meanwhile with Pertamina, GE would help distribute Pertamina's oil fuel to remote areas.

All of the cooperation programs with Indonesian state firms were included in its partnership program called New Production Introduction, he said.
