Grenada opposition sweeps parliamentary elections: report

Grenada's opposition New National Party (NNP) swept the tiny tropical islets' parliamentary election Tuesday by winning most of the 15 seats contested according to preliminary results, Caribbean media reported.

The ruling National Democratic Congress (DNC) congratulated its rival for the victory in a statement posted on social media, the Caribbean Journal reported.

About 62,000 voters of the island nation with a population of 110,000 cast their ballots in the country's first parliamentary elections since 2008.

Fifteen out of all 28 seats parliamentary seats are being contested and the rest 13 slots would be filled by appointments of both the ruling and opposition parties.
