Chinese NPC chairman visits Macao

Chairman of China's National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee Wu Bangguo arrived in Macao on Wednesday for a three-day visit to mark the 20th anniversary of the promulgation of the Macao Basic Law.

The Macao Basic Law, promulgated on March 31, 1993, took effect at the establishment of the Macao SAR on Dec. 20 1999. The Basic Law is the cornerstone of Macau's political, legal, socio-economic and judicial systems.

During his visit, Wu will attend the inauguration of a Macao Basic Law pavilion and the launch of a book on the city's highest law. He will also visit the Macao University (UM) campus construction site on Hengqin Island and attend a reception marking the 100th anniversary of the Macao Chamber of Commerce (ACM).

Wu will leave Macao on Friday afternoon.
