It has been over two years since Geely's acquisition of the world's second largest automatic transmission company Australian DSI in 2009. After the successful takeover, the project of localization of DSI transmission gearbox has been under rapid and steady development. Recently Geely has launched its first homemade 6AT transmission. Sources say Englon SC7 is expected to be equipped with the 6AT transmission in August.

Geely has set up three factories to produce DSI transmissions in China so far. The plant in Xiangtan city, Hunan Province is its first such plant built in China, and it is estimated that this plant can produce 300,000 transmissions per year. Its two other plants are located in Jining city of Shandong Province and Tongliang county in Chongqing, which costs the company 1.6 billion yuan and 800 million yuan respectively.

To improve control precision and gearshift comfort, Geely's DSI 6AT platform uses independent clutch control, closed-loop control rule of shift pressure and engine torque control to configure "Lepelletier" planetary gear transmission system, multi-plate wet clutch and brake. Meanwhile, it adopts more excellent lock-up absorber to realize low-speed lock-up, and optimizes the design of friction plate and transmission shaft to reduce the trailing moment of the clutch, so as to increase the efficiency of transmission.

The platform produces a diversity of products, including front transverse 6ATF series and front longitudinal 6ATR series, which can be fitted onto different car models. It is said that Geely 6AT transmission gearboxes that will soon roll off its assembly lines are mainly designed to be applied to any Geely car models with a 1.8L engine. And the automatic gearboxes produced by DSI Company may match with all Geely car models in the near future.
