Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi held talks with visiting Brunei's Foreign and Trade Minister Prince Mohamed Bolkiah here on Tuesday, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.

China is willing to work with Brunei to deepen pragmatic cooperation and enhance bilateral friendship, Yang said, noting that China-Brunei relations have seen smooth development since they established diplomatic ties in 1991.

Brunei is ready to work with China to further high-level exchanges and promote bilateral cooperation, Mohamed said. He said that cooperation between the two nations has achieved progress in politics, the economy, culture, education, tourism and other fields.

On China-ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) relations, Yang said that China values its friendship and cooperation with the ASEAN and will support Brunei on holding East Asian summits this year so as to push forward mutually beneficial cooperation and jointly safeguard the healthy and stable development of relations.

Mohamed said that Brunei, holding the ASEAN's rotating presidency in 2013, is willing to promote ASEAN-China ties, and spoke highly of China's contribution to relations between the two sides.

Mohamed is visiting China from Sunday to Thursday at the invitation of Yang.
