Accor Indonesia, a local unit of France's Accor group, Europe's largest hotelier, aims to open 17 more hotels in Indonesia this year as growing travelers to the country boost demand, local tribunnews online reported Tuesday.

Gerard Guillouet, head of Accor Indonesia, said that the 17 hotels would be located in the country's tourism cities including Bali.

Guillouet added that the new hotels would be put into operation soon, and Sofitel hotel, a luxury one, was scheduled to start operation in October next year.

With operations of 60 hotels in Indonesia ranging from the luxury Sofitel to budget Ibis, Accor Indonesia has become the country's biggest international hotel operator. The company opened 11 new hotels in 2012 and eight in 2011, according to tribunnews online.

Indonesia, Southeast Asia's largest economy, recorded over 8 million foreign tourist arrivals in 2012, up 5.61 percent from a year earlier.
