A militant with the Haqqani network was detained on Thursday in eastern Afghan province of Logar 60 km south of Afghan capital of Kabul, the coalition forces said.

"An Afghan and coalition security force arrested a Haqqani high- profile attack facilitator and detained two other insurgents during an operation in Pul-e Alam district, Logar province, today, " the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said in a press release.

A Taliban-linked group of militants, the Haqqani network mostly operates in eastern provinces and Kabul, and has been responsible for many high-profile attacks against security forces.

"The facilitator is believed responsible for transporting and facilitating weapons in multiple provinces across Afghanistan, to include both home-made explosive material and vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices (IEDs) for use against Afghan and coalition security forces," the ISAF release added.

In addition, the joint forces killed one insurgent and injured another in an operation in Marjeh district in southern Helmand province, 555 km south of Kabul on Wednesday.

The Afghan and ISAF security forces have intensified operations against Taliban and other militant groups recently. But the insurgent groups responded by bombings.

On Wednesday morning, Taliban carried out a suicide bombing against an army bus, wounding 10 people including six employees of Defense Ministry in Kabul.
