Tony Leung Chiu Wai, a prestigious Hong Kong actor, recently quit shooting the highly anticipated film 1905, co-produced by Chinese and Japanese companies, due to the continuing Diaoyu Islands dispute, according to Japanese newspaper Yomiuri Shimbun.

Teikoku Databank, a large domestic credit investigation company, revealed Tuesday that Prenom-H, one of the companies producing 1905, filed for bankruptcy last week with a debt of $7 million due to cash flow problems.

Cries from supportive and critical voices alike erupted online, arguing over whether art should be influenced by politics. Leung, however, has not released an official response yet.

@Bluelion: I support Tony for his patriotism! But the company is rather fragile if it goes bankrupt because of a single failed project.

@Boanxiuce: Am I the only one who thinks this is not honorable? To break the contract not because of problems with the film itself, but over the nationality of a production company - that is not patriotism to me.

@Pifu: Leung is just an actor, and it's inappropriate to let art get involved in political disputes.
