Toyota announced Wednesday that its auto production in China rose by 7.4 percent year-on-year to 57,200 units in January.

Toyota and other leading Japanese auto manufacturers saw their first year-on-year growth in January in production and sales since the territorial dispute between China and Japan over the Diaoyu Islands in the East China Sea last September.

Nissan and Honda recorded rises in production in China of 32.4 percent and 20.1 percent year-on-year, respectively.

Sales have also witnessed a noticeable pickup. Toyota said its sales in China rose by 23.5 percent year-on-year to 72,500 units in January.

Nissan's sales in China increased 22 percent from one year earlier and Honda's sales rose 22 percent year-on-year.

The year-on-year rebound in production and sales was partly a result of the Spring Festival factor, analysts said, as the holiday fell in February this year but in January last year.

The companies also remain cautious about their performance in the China market in the coming months.

It is too early to say that Toyota has got back on its feet in China, and the company needs to monitor demand in the coming months, the Wall Street Journal cited a Toyota spokesperson as saying Wednesday.
