Myanmar drug lord Naw Kham (center), who was convicted of murdering 13 Chinese sailors on the Mekong River in 2011, is taken to the place of execution in Kunming, Southwest China's Yunnan Province on Friday afternoon. Naw Kham and three of his accomplices, identified as Hsang Kham, Yi Lai, and Zha Xika, were executed by lethal injection on Friday. After the execution, the bodies should be cremated and the remains should be handed over to relatives, according to Chinese law. China Central Television Friday showed a live broadcast of the last moments of the four before they took the lethal injection, dividing public opinion over whether it was appropriate. Naw Kham and his gang members were found to have planned and colluded with Thai soldiers in an attack on two Chinese cargo ships, Hua Ping and Yu Xing 8, on October 5, 2011 on the Mekong River. The criminals were extradited to China last year. They were handed death penalties on November 6, 2012, and the court in Kunming later upheld the ruling following their appeals. Photo: CFP
