The local transportation authority plans to terminate four bus lines that run to the former China Pavilion due to a shortage of riders, local media reported Sunday.

The end of the lines is part of the Shanghai Municipal Transport and Port Authority's plan to adjust the bus routes to the site in Pudong New Area, according to a report in the Shanghai Morning Post. The authority plans to add two new lines and adjust the routes of six others to maintain public transportation service to the site.

The four China Pavilion bus lines began running in 2010 and 2011 to transport tourists to the reopened China Pavilion after the World Expo ended in October 2010, the report said.

Line 1, Line 2 and Line 3 ran to the site from Lujiazui, Shanghai South Railway Station and People's Square respectively.

The transportation authority changed Line 4 to city bus line No.1213 on October 1, 2012, after the China Pavilion was transformed into the China Art Museum.

The lines were always meant to be temporary, said Huang Xiaoyong, a press officer for the Shanghai Municipal Transport and Port Authority.

The authority plans to change the routes of the No.182, No.164, No.454 and No.1030 buses to cover the routes traveled by the three remaining China Pavilion lines, so that visitors still have public transportation to the site, Huang said.

The Shanghai Municipal Transport and Port Authority has not decided when it will terminate the lines. It has posted a draft of its plan on its website and will solicit public comments until Saturday.
