Amateur video uploaded to the Internet purports to show heavy gun battles in the southern Syrian city of Deraa between Syrian rebels and government forces and the aftermath of shelling in the Damascus suburb of Daraya.

The videos reportedly filmed in Deraa on Monday, show a government checkpoint which has been attacked by rebels. Deraa has emerged as a new front line in the civil war with Syrian government warplanes bombing the city for the first time in February.

The capital Damascus, and its outlying suburbs are also still suffering from heavy bombardment and shelling. The two-year-old conflict in Syria has killed at least 70,000 people.
