Syrian opposition coalition elected here early Tuesday morning Ghassan Hitto as prime minister of the interim government as part of the efforts to establish a coherent and inclusive political body to administer the opposition-held areas in northern Syria.

Six candidates were nominated for the position of prime minister. However, after long discussions Ghassan Hitto was elected as prime minister for the transitional government.

The meeting was attended by 63 key members of the Syrian National Coalition for Opposition and Revolutionary Forces.
