Gold futures on the COMEX division of the New York Mercantile Exchange climbed Tuesday to tally a fourth straight session gain as uncertainty surrounding a proposed tax on Cyprus bank deposits as part of a bailout plan continued to boost the metal's safe haven appeal.

The most active gold contract for April delivery advanced 6.7 dollars, or 0.42 percent, to settle at 1,611.3 dollars per ounce.
