Shanghai will host its first citizens art festival from Saturday, local authorities announced at a press conference Thursday.

The festival will include competitions for dancing, photography and calligraphy. Public cultural facilities will all open for free on Saturday.

The festival, which will last until December, will feature 22,000 events and expects to attract 24 million participants.

Participants can apply online at smwhj.wgj.sh.gov.cn.
