Colombian police have seized more than 7.7 tons of marijuana that allegedly belonged to Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) insurgents, authorities said Tuesday.

Police found 158 packages that tested positive for cannabis in two trucks stopped at a toll booth, authorities said.

The FARC rebels reportedly planned to distribute the marijuana in Colombia's capital, where authorities said they already have prevented the sales of 14 billion Colombian pesos' (about 7.6 million US dollars) worth of drugs.

"The large quantity corresponds to the shortage in Bogota as a result of the strong and coordinated police operations against the city's main marijuana retailers," authorities said.

Police also dismantled a cocaine processing laboratory in rural Barbacoas, in Colombia's southwest Narino department. The lab, which belonged to a FARC faction, had the capacity of processing about 2 tons of cocaine per month, officials said.

The rebels are believed to rely partly on the drug trade to fund their movements, mostly by taxing Colombia's cocaine producers and traffickers.
