Myanmar Police Force has detained five suspects involved in violence in Okpo township in central Bago Region, official media reported Wednesday.

In the violence over the weekend, some religious buildings, shops and houses were stoned.

Security measures are being taken to prevent further spread of the violence, the report said.

Okpo, along with two other townships of Gyopingauk and Minhla in Bago region, was imposed on Tuesday night a dusk-to-dawn curfew following violence in the areas the previous days.

The three townships are the latest series hit by communal violence in a week after Meikhtila, Yemethin and Tatkon in northern Mandalay region.

The curfew bans gathering of more than five people, making speech, procession and demonstration.

Meanwhile, Myanmar police force claimed to have also arrested earlier 35 suspects linked with Meikhtila and Yemethin riots, bringing the total under detention to 40 so far, with 10 more suspects in the connection being wanted.

Recent riot in Myanmar was first sparked by a brawl between buyers and sellers over a bit of gold clip at a gold shop in Meikhtila, Mandalay region on March 20, in which 40 people were killed and 39 others injured with 152 houses, one education office and 13 religious buildings were burnt and 2 motor vehicles and three motor cycles being destroyed.
