Lebanon's President Michel Suleiman on Thursday set the date of parliamentarian consultations to name a new prime minister.

The presidency said in a statement that the two-day consultations will begin on April 5 with Speaker Nabih Berri and caretaker Prime Minister Najib Miqati respectively.

Miqati announced his resignation on Friday evening after his government failed to reach an agreement in a cabinet session earlier in the day over the formation of a supervisory electoral body.

The Mustaqbal Movement and Phalange Party of the opposition March 14 camp had announced their openness to returning to national dialogue and forming a salvation government, while Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea called for the formation of a technocrat cabinet.

For his part, Lebanese Hezbollah MP Hassan Fadlallah voiced his opposition to Miqati's nomination to the premiership.

Meanwhile, caretaker Interior Minister Marwan Charbel revealed Thursday that the postponement of the upcoming parliamentary elections is inevitable, mainly due to the lack of cash to cover election expenses and to form an independent body to oversee the polls.
