US Treasury Secretary to visit Europe on economic issues

US Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew will travel to Europe in early April for economic discussions with European Union leaders and senior government officials of Germany and France, US Treasury Department announced Friday.

Lew will visit Europe on April 8-9 for discussions on economic developments in Europe and policies to boost global growth and promote financial stability, the department said in a statement.

According to the statement, on April 8, Lew will meet with European Council President Herman Van Rompuy, European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso in Brussels, Belgium, and then he will travel to Germany's Frankfurt where he will meet with European Central Bank President Mario Draghi.

He will also go to Berlin, Germany, and Paris the next day for meetings with German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schauble and French Finance Minister Pierre Moscovici.

It will be Lew's first official visit to Europe since he took office as US Treasury Secretary last month.
