Ukraine conducted a test run of a domestically built high-speed train in southern Crimea peninsula, officials said Tuesday.
The EKp1 train, built by the Krukov railcar plant in central Ukraine, is designed with a maximum speed of 200 km per hour to compete with imported high-speed trains, the National Committee on Transport and Communications said in a statement.
The EKp1 train, unveiled in Simferopol, Crimea, will be tested on Crimean rail lines until May 1, and then it will be put into commercial use, the statement said.
The nine-car train uses wear-resistant, environment-friendly and slow-burning materials and meets global railway safety standards, added the committee.
The EKp1 train is equipped with first- and second-class coaches, dining rooms and places for the disabled. Ticket prices are expected to meet the demands of people with different levels of income.
