Top Chinese legislator meets Brunei's Sultan

Top Chinese legislator Zhang Dejiang met Brunei's Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah here on Friday with the two sides agreeing to further promote ties.

Zhang, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, said China and Brunei have maintained sound momentum of development since they established diplomatic ties in 1991.

Noting that both sides agreed to promote bilateral relations to a new high during the Sultan's visit, Zhang said China is willing to further enhance the two sides' traditional friendship, deepen pragmatic cooperation and achieve greater development of bilateral relations.

He also voiced a willingness to strengthen friendly communication between the National People's Congress of China and the legislative council of Brunei by learning from each other and deepening cooperation.

China will firmly follow the path of peaceful development, he said, adding that the country provides opportunities to the world with its developments and will work with Brunei to achieve peaceful and common development through cooperation.

Hassanal said Brunei values its close ties with China and will maintain the one-China policy.

He also commended China's contribution to regional development and the promising future of the two sides' cooperation in all fields.
