Venezuelan parliament speaker Diosdado Cabello on Wednesday denounced an alleged plan by the opposition to create chaos in the country if defeated in the April 14 presidential elections.

Speaking on the state-run VTV channel, Cabello, who is also the vice president of the ruling United Socialist party, presented an audio material of opposition candidate Henrique Capriles's driver as evidence of the opposition's destabilizing plan.

During the conversation, the driver spoke of an alleged intention of Capriles to reject the election results. He said Capriles knew that he should be the first to ignore the results as the opposition leader, so that his followers could protest against the elections.

Cabello believed that the telephone conversation was evident enough to charge the opposition candidate, as he "hears and knows what this man says and does."

Moreover, the parliament leader also revealed presence of Central American militants in Venezuela, who attempted to undermine the country's electoral process.

"They came to Venezuela to plant bombs, attack, do electrical sabotage," he said, adding that these militants come from El Salvador. Salvadoran President Mauricio Funes said Tuesday he would investigate these allegations.

Capriles did not respond to the accusations, but warning that the ruling party was trying to defame him.

"In next few hours you will see how they will increase the rumors and start generating campaigns so that people begin to be scared," he said during his campaign in the western Merida state.

Some 18 million Venezuelans will go to the polling stations on Sunday to choose a new president to succeed late President Hugo Chavez, who died last month of cancer.
