Seven Afghan civilians were killed and four others wounded Wednesday morning when a roadside bomb struck a vehicle in western province of Herat, the country's Interior Ministry said.

"A civilian vehicle touched off a roadside bomb planted by Taliban insurgent group in Ali Abad area, Shindand district of Herat province at around 8:45 a.m. local time. As a restful seven innocent civilians were killed and four others wounded," the ministry said in a statement.

The statement said several women and children were among the victims, adding that the injured were shifted to a hospital by police forces in the province 640 km west of Afghan capital Kabul.

Afghan Taliban, who has launched massive Improvised Explosive Device (IED) and roadside bomb attacks against foreign and Afghan national security forces in recent years, has yet to make comments.

In addition, four off duty army soldiers and two aid workers with the Afghan Red Crescent Society were killed and a civilian and two aid workers were wounded when Taliban ambushed two vehicles in northern Jawzjan province late Tuesday, a provincial official told Xinhua Wednesday.

The official said an investigation was kicked off into the incidents.

Earlier Wednesday, a sound bomb placed in a garbage container went off near a hospital in western Kabul, causing no casualties, the ministry confirmed.

The Taliban-led insurgency and conflicts claimed the lives of more than 2,800 Afghan security forces and over 400 foreign soldiers besides leaving 2,754 civilians dead last year in the central Asian state.
