Five people have been diagnosed with the H7N9 bird flu virus through retrospective diagnosis, the municipal government said Tuesday.

Two of those diagnosed have died. Retrospective diagnosis is the practice of identifying an illness after the fact, said Wu Fan, director of the Shanghai Municipal Center for Disease Control and Prevention, during an online chat session with Internet users Wednesday.
