Kazakhstan, Italy return to Ice Hockey World Championship

The 2013 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship concluded its division I matches on Saturday in Budapest, Hungary, with both Kazakhstan and Italy being promoted to the 2014 World Championship.

Kazakhstan won a deciding game against Italy 3-0 (1-0, 1-0, 1-0), taking first place in division I Group A. Prior to the game, Italy had won all four previous games and had been promoted to the top division. These two teams had been relegated one year ago.

Host Hungary beat Japan 1-0 (1-0,0-0,0-0), finishing in third place. Japan finished in fourth place.

South Korea beat Britain 4-1 (0-1, 3-0,1-0) in a battle for fifth place. The Koreans managed to stay in the Division I Group A. Britain was relagated to the Division I Group B.

1. Kazakhstan 12 points (promoted)

2. Italy 12 points (promoted)

3. Hungary 10 points

4. Japan 6 points

5. South Korea 5 points

6. Britain 0 point (relegated)
