All eyes on the bride

A female anchor broadcast the news of the 7-magnitude earthquake in Lushan county, Ya'an, Sichuan Province on Saturday while wearing her wedding gown, as her marriage was being held that day in Ya'an, china.com.cn reported Saturday.

The bride, Chen Ying, also the anchor of Ya'an Television, had no time to change out of her wedding gown because of a tight schedule. After she finished broadcasting, she returned to her wedding ceremony.

Chen has been called the "most beautiful bride" by netizens for her professionalism. However, some Web users suspect that she did it for the publicity.

"As a news veteran, I should salute Chen," Sina Weibo user Liushusong said.

"In such urgent circumstances, Chen came to the site from her wedding ceremony, regardless of how important the day was, which was not convenient and certainly dangerous," said Yangxiaoqiao. "I'm touched by her professionalism."

Meanwhile, some Web users criticized Chen, saying that she just made a show in pursuit of overnight fame.

"When I saw Chen on TV, I felt uncomfortable," SEVENT0084 said. "I hated that she wore a wedding gown and smiled while working because she didn't show any respect for the dead."

"I can't believe that she had no time to change her clothes. She doesn't deserve respect and praise because she aims to use the disaster to gain fame," Renshengfengyulu said.

Don't bet the ranch

Some civil servants in ministries and national-level committees can buy cheaper houses inside Beijing's Third Ring Road, where real estate is valued at 50,000 yuan ($8,090) per square meter. These government employees are given a price of 5,000 yuan per square meter, news portal yicai.com reported Thursday.

The news angered many Web users. Some netizens said civil servants enjoy too many benefits.

"Civil servants are very eager to spend the money of taxpayers. That's why so many people try to take the examinations for civil servants," Tuiqinxinshuangpung said, stressing that the government should introduce a third party to supervise its financial system.

"I see now why policies (to lower housing prices) are difficult to put into practice," said Haitaoshenzhen.

However, some Web users said people misunderstand the issue of civil servants and real estate.

"Don't speak ill of all civil servants. Those who can afford houses inside the capital's third ring are all officials among civil servants," said Bosimiaomiao.

Others said the jobs of China's civil servants are not as good as people think.
