Continual aftershocks and insufficient relief supplies are hampering the rescue efforts on April 21 in Lushan and neighboring counties of Sichuan Province that were badly hit by a 7.0-magnitude earthquake on the morning of April 20.

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang found a few minutes to down a bowl of rice porridge and pickled vegetables for breakfast while surveying rescue efforts in Lushan county after a 7.0-magnitude earthquake shook the area. Afterwards, Li Keqiang visited those injured in the earthquake at West China Hospital in Chengdu, Sichuan Province.

The Red Cross Society of China (RCSC) has allocated 51 million yuan ($8,251,000) in disaster relief as of April 21 for the quake-hit Ya’an in Southwest China’s Sichuan Province, the RCSC’s standing deputy director told the Beijing News in Chengdu, Sichuan Province.

A total of 5 million iPhones were returned to Foxconn Technology Group, the Taiwan-based electronics manufacturer, due to subpar chassis or faulty functions, the China Business Journal reported on April 21.

The State Council General Office announced on April 21 that all regions, departments, units and organizations should not organize rescue initiatives on their own and the State Council General Office will coordinate and arrange these works if necessary, according to the Xinhua News Agency.
