Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen said Monday that he would remain silent during a month-long election campaign for a general election on July 28.

"During the one-month campaign period, I'll take a rest at home. As my habit, I do not conduct election campaign by myself, I let members of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP) to do campaign instead,"the premier said during the inauguration of new achievements at a Buddhist pagoda in eastern Prey Veng province.

"So from June 27 to July 28--the election day, I will not publicly deliver speeches," he said. "This is my habit since 1998."

The country is scheduled to hold a general election for the 123- seat parliament on July 28. Some 9.67 million Cambodians are eligible to cast their ballots in the upcoming election, according to the National Election Committee (NEC).

Tep Nytha, NEC's secretary general, predicted last Friday that less than 10 political parties out of the 43 political parties, which were registered at the Interior Ministry, would run in the forthcoming election.

Political analysts foresaw that the CPP of Prime Minister Hun Sen will dominantly win the election.

Late last month, Hun Sen also predicted that his party would win at least two-thirds majority in the poll.

Hun Sen, 62, has been in power for 28 years and vowed to stay in office until he is 90.
