The most senior prosecutors from five of the world's developed English-speaking countries will meet in New Zealand next month to discuss how to prosecute crimes of sexual violence against women and children.

The Quintet of Attorneys-General, which first met in 2009, would see officials from Australia, Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom and the host country exchange experience and knowledge to improve cooperation on cross-border legal issues, New Zealand Attorney-General Christopher Finlayson said in a statement Tuesday.

"This is an area of great concern because of the seriousness of crimes of sexual violence against women and children and the particular challenges to successful prosecution. It raises important cross-border issues in relation to sexual violence in situations of armed conflict and post-conflict situations, including the recent G8 Declaration on Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict," said Finlayson.

The discussions would cover strengthening cooperation in civil and commercial matters, support for victims of crime, technology advancements in courts, judicial appointments, and gun violence, firearms regulation and reform in Quintet countries.

The meeting on May 8 is the first of Quintet meeting to be held in New Zealand.
