Israeli settlers set up a settlement outpost in the West Bank on Thursday near the site of the killing of a settler by a Palestinian assailant two days ago, Palestinian sources said.

The settlers placed 10 caravans, taking up tens of dunams (tens of thousands of square meters) from the lands of Bita village near Nablus city, said Ghassan Daghlas, a Palestinian anti-settlement activist.

The Israeli government usually prevents the erection of random outposts by individuals, calling them illegal. However, it allows expanding old settlements and even building new ones through official tenders.

Palestinians walked out from peace talks with Israel over a dispute on the Jewish settlement activities in the West Bank. The United States is trying to revive the talks after over two years of deadlock.

On Tuesday, a former Palestinian prisoner stabbed to death an Israeli settler at a bus stop in the West Bank. He later seized the settler's pistol and engaged in a shootout against Israeli police, but was later arrested with wounds.
