Afghan forces and the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) troops have found and defused nine Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in eastern Afghan provinces, said the ISAF forces on Friday.

"Afghan National Security and Coalition Forces detained two suspected insurgents and found and safely cleared nine improvised explosive devices during operations in eastern Afghanistan throughout the past 24 hours," the ISAF's Regional Command-East said in a statement.

The two suspects were captured in Khost and Wardak province, the statement said, adding the home-made IEDs were defused in Laghman, Logar, Nangarhar, Paktika, Wardak and Khost province.

The IEDs used in making suicide jackets and roadside bombs have proved a challenge for Afghan and some 100,000 NATO-led forces in the insurgency-hit country, as they are simple but difficult to be detected.

The Taliban, which has been waging an insurgency of more than one decade, has yet to make comments.

The Taliban-led insurgency has been rampant since the militant group launched an annual rebel offensive in late last month against Afghan government forces and the NATO-led troops stationed in the country.
