Three people were killed in Egypt after a Facebook overnight spat over President Mohamed Morsi turned into a bloody fight, state-run Al-Ahram news website reported Friday.

The bloody episode, which took place at a village in the Nile Delta governorate of Sharqiya, 65 km north of the capital Cairo, started after a 28-year-old person allegedly insulted Morsi on Facebook, provoking a spat with a 22-year-old student, a supporter of Morsi and son of a local member of the Muslim Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice Party.

Shortly afterwards, the spat turned into a bloody fight in which the armed student shot dead his opponent and killed another man who intervened to stop the fight.

In the absence of the police, some angry villagers managed to catch the escaped student after setting fire to his house and beating him to death.

The incident is a reminder of increasing insecurity and disorder overwhelming the country over the past two years following the 2011 uprising that ousted former President Hosni Mubarak, as well as growing public dissatisfaction with the performance and policies of the first elected civilian president.
