At least 10 people were killed in attacks on a market and a church in northeastern Nigeria, police reported on Monday.

Police spokesperson of Adamawa State Ibrahim Mohammed said gunmen raided the village of Jilang, where the market and the church were located. The attackers also injured nine people.

"Six people were kill in the market while four people were kill in a church by the gunmen who used motor-cycles for the attacks," Mohammed said.

Policemen rushing to the village from the nearby town of Maiha could not catch up with the gunmen, who followed an illegal route into neighboring Cameroon, according to the spokesperson.

The attack was the second in the area in five moths.

In December, gunmen in an assault on Maiha sacked the divisional police station. They killed a policeman and set free 35 inmates from prison.

The attack on the border local government also affected the Dietrich head house, Area Court, Customs Post and Local Education Authority.
