I write apropos of an article published in your esteemed daily newspaper titled "Fear of new uncertainty hangs over Pakistani elections as military plots" on Monday by Haider Rizvi.

The opinion expressed by the author is distorted and contrary to the facts.

An objective appraisal would establish that the armed forces of Pakistan are a professional institution that has abided by the country's constitution and supported the civilian rule and democratic process.

Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff, General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, while addressing a gathering on April 30, categorically stated that "We are committed to wholeheartedly assist and support the conduct of free, fair and peaceful elections; to the best of our capabilities and remaining within the confines of the constitution. I also assure you that this support shall solely be aimed at strengthening democracy and rule of law in the country."

The democratic government has completed its five-year tenure and peaceful transition of power is on the anvil. It is unfair to question the impartiality of the armed forces of Pakistan in favor of any particular party or group.

The armed forces of Pakistan have shown unequivocal commitment to eradicate terrorism and extremism from the country.

Their innumerable sacrifices in this regard are an eloquent testimony to their resolve and are beyond question.
