Authorities are trying to determine who sent 100 live cockroaches and 501 live spiders to Beijing and Shenzhen. The creatures were intercepted by customs at Beijing Capital Airport, and came from Germany, airport authorities told the Beijing Daily.

Five packages were sent from Germany, labeled as toys. The sender could face a prison term.

Authorities say these insects not only spread infectious diseases, but can disrupt the local ecosphere, competing for food with local creatures.
