Multiple fatalities were reported and as many as 100 people got injured after possible tornadoes swept through the US state of Texas Wednesday night, officials said.

Twisters touched down in the counties of Tarrant, Hood, Dallas and Parker in north Texas, according to a CNN report.

Matt Zavadsky, spokesman for MedStar Mobile Healthcare, said there were reports of at least 100 people being injured, the report said.

At least three people were killed and multiple homes were destroyed after tornados struck Granbury, a town of about 8,000 people in Hood County, USA Today quoted Hood County Sheriff Roger Deeds as reporting.

Reeds also said that up to 100 people were injured, some critically. The injuries range from amputations to minor bumps and bruises, Deeds says.

"There were probably 75 homes in that subdivision that are totally destroyed,'' Deeds said. "We haven't had a bad one like this for a while.''

Kathy Jividen, a spokeswoman for the county's sheriff's office, said that local authorities late Wednesday had commenced a door-to-door search and rescue mission to assist wounded residents.

School buses were reportedly sent to affected neighborhoods to help with evacuations.

The tornado was among several spotted in Texas Wednesday night and part of a broader storm system that dumped rain and hail in parts of the state.

The US National Weather Service said 32 counties in Texas were under a tornado watch until Thursday morning.
